Big Disk of Pu Erh Tea

I got this $9 disk of tea, and it’s pretty good. I don’t recall the name, but it’s at a couple of the local Chinese/Viet markets.

To make it, you break off a chunk that’s a couple tablespoons. Then you break and crumble that into smaller pieces.

To brew pu erh, it’s Chinese style.

  1. Put the tea into a cup or pan or pot. Add boiling water, and let it steep 30 second.
  2. Strain out the first brew, and dispose of the liquid. You do this to get rid of the mushroomy flavor.
  3. Using water that’s closer to 180F/85C, brew the tea for three minutes or so.
    • You can use hotter water, and then use it to heat up the cups.
    • Once the cup is hot, dump the water into the tea leaves.
    • Brew, then strain the tea into the hot cups.
    • This is a nice trick to keep everything warm.
  4. You can get at least 5 brews from a batch of leaves. I get nearly 10.

The tea tasted good!
