I’m using Obsidian, a lot, to read and edit Markdown files, partly for all this LLM practice. This is a document of tips and troubleshooting.
Symptoms: tried to open a vault in a folder that has restricted permissions. The vault starts to open, but you get an “EACCESS permission denied” error. You cannot remove it from the vault list, because the vault is partially open.
Solution: Start up Obsidian with a special “Obsidian URI”, and it’ll start with the “open vault” dialog.
flatpak run md.obsidian.Obsidian %U obsidian://choose-vault
My command looks that way because I am running Linux MINT, and installed the Flatpak version of the program.
From there, you can remove the vault from the vault list. You can then restart Obsidian, and it won’t try to open the problem vault.
