I had this 7 pound rice cooker, but it was bulky. The packaging costs were stunning.
| External box – a Lowes heavy duty box that I had to cut down: | ~$6 |
| Internal box – U-Haul book box (12x12x12), but I also bought a Small box, because I wasn’t sure if the smaller box was big enough. (~$4) | ~$4 |
| Packing peanunts – U-Haul | ~$8 |
| Bubble wrap – Lowe’s $30 a roll, used several feet of it. | ~$6 |
| Reused foam and air pillows, and I had a roll of heavy duty tape, and a bottle of glue. (If I bought it, it would be around half a bag of packing peanuts, several feet of tape, and a bottle of school glue.) | ~$0 |
$26 just for the packaging, excluding travel. (Up front cost is closer to $61. The “free” stuff totals around $6.)
Total weight was around 13 pounds, so the packaging weighed around 6 pounds.
The dimensions of the box are 18x18x18, but I increased it an inch for estimating postage.
