I got this $9 disk of tea, and it’s pretty good. I don’t recall the name, but it’s at a couple of the local Chinese/Viet markets.
To make it, you break off a chunk that’s a couple tablespoons. Then you break and crumble that into smaller pieces.
To brew pu erh, it’s Chinese style.
- Put the tea into a cup or pan or pot. Add boiling water, and let it steep 30 second.
- Strain out the first brew, and dispose of the liquid. You do this to get rid of the mushroomy flavor.
- Using water that’s closer to 180F/85C, brew the tea for three minutes or so.
- You can use hotter water, and then use it to heat up the cups.
- Once the cup is hot, dump the water into the tea leaves.
- Brew, then strain the tea into the hot cups.
- This is a nice trick to keep everything warm.
- You can get at least 5 brews from a batch of leaves. I get nearly 10.
The tea tasted good!
