Save Money on NewEgg RMA Shipping Costs, Mail for $4

You’re about to return something to NewEgg, and they offer to print a label for you, and it costs nearly $8. You can save a few dollars by using the US Postal Service.

If the item is light, you can use “First Class Parcel” to send it, and the shipping will be around $4, or less for very light items like RAM.

The first thing you need to do is find a scale to use.  If you don’t have one, you’ll need to go to the post office.  If you do a lot of returns, you might consider getting a scale.  Also, they are useful for measuring things in the kitchen.  You can get one for $10 on ebay.

Put your item back in its packaging, and then wrap it with some bubble wrap, if you have it. Find a box, and put it into the box.  Keep the boxes for this purpose. The best boxes are lightweight Amazon boxes.

The Amazon A3 box weighs 6 ounces.

If you know what your object weighs, you’re set.  You don’t really need a scale.  Here are some weights:

  • RAM – 2 oz.
  • USB mouse 3-4 oz.
  • Cheap smartphone 5oz.
  • Jump drive, metal 1.5oz.

So, you get the idea. Add 6 oz + 3 or 4 ounces for the object.  That’s a total of 10 ounces, just to be safe.

Go to PayPal.com and log in. You need a PayPal account to continue.

There is a menu item in the left column, MultiOrder Shipping.  That application will allow  you to print a first-class parcel label.  Follow the screens, and you will be able to print a label.

You could also just drop it off at the post office: but the price may be higher.

You can take the package with prepaid postage to the post office, and drop it off without waiting in line.  Just ask the clerks.  They will probably just take it from you, or direct you to the counter where they accept prepaid packages.
